SharkEar ("we", "us", or "our") built the SnoreCheck app ("the App") as a commercial application. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the App.

1. Information We Collect

SnoreCheck does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers. All data generated by the App stays entirely on your device.

The App processes the following data locally on your device only:

• Audio recordings — The App records ambient sound while you sleep to detect snoring. Recordings are stored as WAV files in the App's private storage on your device.
• Session metadata — Start time, end time, duration, and detection results (e.g., snoring event count, timestamps, loudness estimates) are stored in a local database on your device.
• App preferences — Your settings (e.g., auto-purge preference) are stored locally using Android SharedPreferences.

2. How Your Data Is Used

All data is processed exclusively on your device to:

• Detect and classify snoring events using an on-device machine learning model.
• Generate sleep quality insights, charts, and scores displayed within the App.
• Provide session history and trend analysis.

3. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, rent, or transmit any of your data to third parties. No audio, analytics, or personal information leaves your device. The App does not contain third-party analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or tracking tools.

4. Data Storage & Retention

• Audio recordings and session data are stored locally on your device.
• You can enable auto-purge in Settings, which automatically deletes audio recordings older than 7 days.
• You can manually delete all audio files (while preserving session statistics) or delete all data entirely from the Settings screen at any time.
• Uninstalling the App removes all associated data from your device.

5. Permissions

The App requests the following Android permissions:

• Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — To record audio during sleep sessions for snore detection.
• Foreground Service — To keep the recording service active while the screen is off.
• Notifications — To display a persistent notification during recording (required by Android).
• Wake Lock — To prevent the device from suspending during all-night recording.
• Battery Optimization Exemption — To ensure uninterrupted recording throughout the night.

No permission is used for any purpose other than core App functionality as described above.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

7. Google Play In-App Review

The App may prompt you to rate it via Google Play's In-App Review API. This is handled entirely by Google Play and does not transmit any data to us.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
